When an unprecedented tornado outbreak in 2021 destroyed 15,000 buildings, including emergency medical facilities, and took the lives of 81 individuals in Kentucky, West Kentucky Healthcare Coalition (WKYHCC) and the Jackson Purchase Medical Center (JPMC) were prepared to act quickly to prevent further devastation. JMPC deployed its emergency response plan, enabling them to treat and release over 80 patients with storm-related injuries within 24 hours, all while dealing with a surge of COVID-19 cases.
Existing infrastructure made an urgent and cohesive response possible.
